| Abstract | ||
| Numerous factors contribute to the environmental degradation and environmental quality. Good governance is recognized by decision-makers as one of the most critical factors influencing the environmental quality. The primary objective of this article is to conduct a comparative analysis of the performance of developed and developing governments regarding environmental quality during 2000 to 2022. To achieve that, the panel data econometric method was employed utilizing Eviews 13 software to examine the relationship among variables. The results indicate that in developed countries, a one percent increase in the variables of corruption control, quality of law and regulation, rule of law, and government effectiveness, reduces the environmental pollution by 0.3%, 3%, 6%, and 7%, respectively; besides, in developing countries, a one percent increase in these same variables results in a decrease in environmental pollution by 0.9%, 0.8%, 1%, and 2%, respectively. These findings underscore a strong relationship between the performance of the legal system and the reduction of the environmental pollution. Consequently, enhancing and implementing good governance indicators can significantly reduce environmental pollution and play a vital role in improving environmental quality | ||
