A Comparative Analysis of the Divine Sunnahs of Surah al-Aḥzāb in the Battle of the Confederates and the Developments of the Islamic Revolution in Iran: An Interpretive-Strategic Reading by Ayatollah Khamenei | ||

| The Holy Qur’an is understood to contain immutable divine sunan that transcend temporal and spatial limitations, elucidating the principles underlying social and historical transformations. Surah al-Aḥzāb, particularly verses 9-27, presents a critical episode in early Islamic history: "The Battle of the Confederates." This study investigates how the divine sunan embedded in this surah are reproduced in Ayatollah Khamenei’s interpretive-strategic reading and their role in analyzing contemporary events. Utilizing a descriptive-analytical method, comparative thematic exegesis, and qualitative content analysis of Ayatollah Khamenei’s statements, the study explains how the divine sunan of Surah al-Aḥzāb are reread to analyze the political and security developments of the Islamic Revolution from his perspective. The research hypothesizes that, within Ayatollah Khamenei’s intellectual framework, the Battle of the Confederates serves as a "Living and Strategic Model" for understanding and confronting contemporary hybrid and cognitive warfare. The findings are organized around five principal themes: "The forces above and below alliance with global hegemonic powers and domestic hypocrisy; the shaking of hearts as modern psychological warfare and the spread of hopelessness; the disease in the heart” as infiltration and Fitnah; the strategy of digging the trench as the doctrine of active resistance and Jihad al-Tabyīn; and the promise Allah repelled those who disbelieved … as the failure of subversive projects in recent decades." The results indicate that, from Ayatollah Khamenei’s perspective, the divine sunan of Surah al-Aḥzāb continue to govern contemporary civilizational struggles, with differences between historical and modern arenas residing only in their instruments and technologies, not in the laws governing divine assistance, victory, and defeat. | ||
